Santa Claus is
coming to town! The City's Holiday
Extravaganza will take place on Saturday, December 3rd with a
rain date of December 10th. Join the fun at the Walker House and
view the San Dimas Historical Society members' collection of Santas.
Some old, some antique, some new. All to help put you in the
festive spirit. The Museum and Gift Shop will also be open from 1
p.m. - 5:30 p.m. on this day.

Walker House
Tours - Docent-led tours of the Walker House are now given the
first Sunday of each month at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Reservations are a must. Call the office at (909) 592-1190.
San Dimas Museum &
Gift Shop
- The newly expanded Museum and Gift Shop are open on the second and
third weekends of each month in conjunction with the Second Story
Gallery. (See sandimasarts.com for details.) The Museum and
Gift Shop are also topen the first Sunday of each month from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

January
Citrus Display and
Lecture - An extensive display of citrus will take place on
Saturday, January 29th from 11 - 3:00 p.m. at the Walker House, 121 North
San Dimas Avenue. Come learn a bit more related to our citrus
heritage. Learn which varietals are better for cooking, juicing,
etc. Tom Spellman, citrus expert, will share his knowledge.

February
Antiques from your
Home Show - Our annual antiques show is right around the corner.
With our thanks to the San Dimas Community Church, the show is scheduled
for February 10th from 7 - 9:30 p.m. Set up begins at 6:30 p.m.
Members and guests always bring a unique group of items to share. You really never know what you will see
and learn about. It should prove to be a fun, entertaining evening.
Refreshments will be served.

Spring Membership
Dinner - The Spring Membership Dinner date has been selected.
Ink in May 26th on your calendars. Flyers will be mailed to your
home for meal selections etc. Once the details are worked out, we
will have that info available here as well. Stay tuned.

Old Spanish Trails
Association Conference - The Old Spanish Trail Association warmly
invites members of the San Dimas Historical Society to attend the 2011
conference on "The Old Spanish Trail in California." This
conference will take place June 2 - 5 at the Kellogg West Hotel in
Pomona, CA, and will feature noted experts on the trail and on southern
California history during the Mexican period. More detailed

September
September is a busy month for your
Historical Society. Walker House and City Tours are both scheduled
for September 17th. See below for details. Also join us as
we represent our fair city at the Los Angeles County Fair - San Dimas
Day, Friday, September 16th.
Walking City Tour
- Our next tour is scheduled for
September 17th. Join
the fun. Get some exercise while learning a bit of information
about your fair city and its history. These walks now start at the Walker House, and
return there just in time for a house tour if space is available or you
can browse the museum. The
group meets at the Walker House, 121 North San Dimas Avenue at 9:00 a.m.
Cost is $5.00 per person. The walk will be cancelled in the event
of rain. Call the office to let them know you plan to join the
group (909) 592-1190.

San Dimas Day at
the Fair - Friday, September 16th. Come
join the fun.
October
Western Days
- October jumps into gear quickly with October 1st and 2nd being
dedicated to Western Days. Come enjoy the parade and other
activities. Be sure to stop by the Historical Society booth to see
what is new and say hello.
Mount Wilson Trip
- The bus is filling up! If you are interested in going, call the
Historical Society Office now at (909) 592-1190. This trip is open
to non-members as well. David Jurasevich, Superintendent of the
Mount Wilson Observatory and speaker from our past Fall Dinner will be
guiding us on our tour. Look at the 2010 Fall Membership Dinner
for more info on David.
November
Fall Membership Dinner -
Our Fall Membership Dinner arrives early this year. It is
scheduled for Thursday, November 3rd so mark your calendars now.
This year will will enjoy speaker William Warren. He will share
information on the Historic Maps located the Huntington Library, sharing
many details that pertain to San Dimas.

Holiday Mixer
- Unfortunately, due to lack of available space there will be no holiday
mixer this year. But do join us at the Holiday Fest, December 4th
at the Walker House.
Fall Membership
Dinner - Dave Jurasevich will present a program on the history of
the Mount Wilson Observatory at the Fall Membership Dinner and Meeting
on Thursday, November 4th. This event will be held at the San
Dimas Canyon Golf Course Club House, 2100 Terrebone Avenue, San Dimas.
The cost is $20 for members, $25 for non. For additional

This is an evening you won't want to
miss. Nearly every resident in the San Gabriel Valley has looked
up to Mount Wilson some time in their lives. Dave Jurasevich is
the Superintendent of the Mount Wilson Observatory. He is a native
of the Midwest, degreed in Mechanical Enginerring with over 30 years of
experience in the chemical, petrochemical and power generation
industries. Retiring from engineering in 2005, Dave became
Superintendent of the Observatory in 2006, a retirement job offering
extraordinary access to one of the world's most respected astronomical
sites. Dave will speak to the history of the Observatory and
include information on the recent Station Fire that came very close to
destroying the venerable Observatory in August, 2009.
Mojave Road Trip
- Join members for fun and historic trip across the Mojave National
Preserve. For two days (November 6th and 7th) members and friends
of members will venture along the Mojave Road also known as Government
Road. Four-wheel drive vehicles are recommended. The group
will meet early morning November 6th outside of Barstow and arrive on
Sunday afternoon at Fort Mojave on the banks of the Colorado River.
History of the area will be shared along the way. There are no
services along the way which means no restrooms. The group will be
utilizing tents, cots, SUVs and such. There may be some extra
seating available through a waiting list. For further information

Western Days
- The San Dimas Historical Society will have a booth during Western Days
(Oct 2 & 3) and be part of the parade. Join us Saturday morning to
cheer on our own Dave Harbin as he waves to the crowd. Visit our
booth to see what is new.
San Dimas Day at
the Fair - Always a fun time at the Los Angeles County Fair.
San Dimas Day was held on September 8th.
Ice Cream Social
- Our annual Ice Cream Social was held on the Walker House patio on
Sunday, August 22, one of the hottest days of this summer. All in
attendance did have a wonderful time despite the heat. We will
schedule the 2011 Ice Cream Social for some time in June.
Spring Membership
Dinner - Our spring membership dinner was held on Thursday,
May 13th. It was held in the San Dimas Canyon Golf Clubhouse.

Antiques from your Home
Show - Our annual show this year was wonderful.
Our thanks again to the San Dimas Community Church for allowing us to
meet in the Fellowship Hall during the evening of March 11th. A
nice sized group of members brought a variety of unique and interesting
items to share this year. You really never know what you will see
and learn about. Old fashioned 'business cards' had everyone in
stitches this year. Truly a fun, entertaining evening.
